Top 10 Tips on Buying from a Used Car Dealer

When deciding to purchase a used car, your world opens up to the many possibilities. Used car buyers find that there are plenty of options when it comes to make, model, and key features. However, there are a few things you should know when it comes to making a decision that could seriously make a difference in your buying experience.

1. Make Sure Your Dealer is Licensed

If your dealership is unlicensed, this is considered an unethical practice and they can be reported. You will want to avoid them at all costs.

2. Do You See it All?

If you can only see the car at night or in bad lighting, that should be a red flag. What exactly are they hiding and why do they not want you to see it so bad?

3. Is That New Paint?

New paint is a sign that your car just had some new bodywork done, which is fine, as long as it has been thoroughly disclosed.

4. Repaired Recently?

If parts of the car don't look right or appear as if they were replaced recently, follow up on this. It may have been something minor or it could be something major that you are going to want all the details on.

5. Why Can I not do a Road Test?

If a dealership is not allowing a road test of any kind this is a huge red flag. They really don't want you to drive it until you sign the papers? Walk away.

6. What is That Smell?

Strange odors from inside or outside the car are not good. This can range in anything from a leaky pipe to a car that has had serious water damage.

7. Did You Hear That?

Strange noises are just as bad as strange odors. It is not normal and should be looked into!

8. That is Definitely Pine.

If the only thing you can smell is pine air freshener then it probably means there was some serious damage, like mold, that has been masked with the scent of pine. It will fade and the smell of mold will return.

9. Buy Quick!

If a dealership is really pressuring you to buy a specific car, this is not a good sign. Why is this car so difficult to get rid of and why do I feel so pressured to buy?

10. Reputation is Important

While buying a used car is fun, you are going to want to make sure you are purchasing from a trusted dealership. Visit used cars in Calgary that have a good online reputation to find a great deal on your next vehicle.
